1876 – exhibits at Centennial International Exposition (Philadelphia)
1877 – exhibits at Esposizione Nazionale (Naples)
1878 – exhibits at Exposition universelle (Paris)
1883 – exhibits in London at Royal Academy and Grosvenor Gallery; visits Paris and meets Camille Pissarro and Edgar Degas, with whom he regularly corresponds
1888 – appointed professor at Accademia di Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts), Naples and at Accademia di Belle Arti e Liceo Artistica (Academy of Fine Arts and Art High School), Bologna
1889 – oversees Italian section of Exposition universelle (Paris) with Giovanni Boldini
1892 – named Honorary Associate of Accademia di Belle Arti, Florence; teaches drawing at Royal Institute of Higher Learning in Florence
